Would You Quit Social Media?

I personally have considered dropping off of social media many times. Maybe not forever but at the very least a hiatus to get things sorted out in the real world. However, I have never brought myself to actually do it. While the thought of that is tempting, and potentially beneficial for me, it's also one of my few outlets, an escape if you will. Being busy a lot of the time, and not having the chance to go out and see friends often, social media is also a way to connect with the world, and be myself.

Firstly, I want to talk about the reasons I've thought about quitting. I've always been one to get high grades, and hold myself to high standards, yet at some points I get too immersed in social media, and don't do as good on homework assignments because I push them off to last minute. A bad habit that I have linked to social media, while I'm sure I could distract myself from homework in other ways, social media is the main source. Additionally, I do spend a lot of time at night on social media, when I should be sleeping. That being said, another reason I've considered quitting is so my sleep schedule gets better, but that could also be a matter of self control.

However, there are many, many reasons why I don't quit. One of the main reasons is for my mental health, so I can still have connections with friends. Through social media I actually have made plenty of online friends, who make me feel better when I'm down. Social media also provides a place for creative output, where I can post my art/writing. It also generally acts as an escape from the real world for a while.

All in all, while I have indeed considered quitting social media, I don't think I ever will. There are many cons to my social media habits, but in the end, the pros outweigh them. So to answer the question with finality, no. I will not quit social media, not now, not even.
